Reports - Recent Events

Seventy guests took a journey back in time and experienced the finest food and wine that Ballarat has to offer whilst taking in the grandeur of historic Lydiard St from the balcony of the George Hotel on Saturday 8th May.

The food was prepared by Damian Jones, chef at Lydiard Wine Bar and the wines from nine of the best boutique producers around Ballarat. Live music from Low Down & Dirty set an atmosphere of the 1920’s with jazz, ragtime and blues.

The Ballarat Heritage Weekend offered a number of events exploring Ballarat history and heritage. This event at The George Hotel was a highlight of the Saturday night program.

2010 World’s Longest Lunch, Ballarat

Another memorable feast
Yet another SELL OUT!

We hope you didn’t miss out on tickets to this year’s World’s Longest Lunch in Ballarat-it was such a great day and we had so may people scrambling for tickets at the last moment. This year, the event returned to the Prime Minister’s Walk in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens-such a peaceful setting to unwind.

Over 150 people enjoyed four courses with matching flights of Ballarat wines. The lunch also raised important funds to aid the recovery in Samoa following the Tsunami in 2009. To whet the appetite, an extract of the menu appears below. To make sure you don’t miss out on tickets, we will give you advance warning of this and other events though this newsletter.

Funds raised for Vivien Hodgin's Foundation

The BDVA was pleased to sponsor the Vivien Hodgin’s Foundation at the recent Ballarat World’s Longest Lunch. Total fundraising was in excess of $4000 with $1500 from the lunch, $1450 from the four auction items and $1070 raised from the raffle.

We thank all of the guests at the Longest Lunch for their support – a “sell out” with 150 guests made it possible to raise the amount shown. Thankyou also to Mark at Golden City Hotel, Andrew from Phoenix Brewery, Adam from Cafe Lekker and Rod from May’s Organic Vegetables for the four auction items and special thanks to the four generous bidders who successfully purchased the items – I’m sure they enjoyed their purchases.

Thankyou also to Carmel from The Turret for the major raffle prize and to all the other donors which made the raffle such a money earner for the Foundation.
